Slogans

When you create a slogan, the first and most important goal is to make sure that you’ve chosen words that are memorable, catchy, something that will stick in the mind of your target audience. That’s a lot to pack into a few little words, words that will be placed on every piece of advertising for the life of the business. The prospect can be daunting and stressful. A solid slogan and appropriate distribution of your solid slogan are crucial to a successful ad campaign.

Here are a few different examples of extremely effective slogans along with what makes them effective:

  • Humorous – “We Cheat Tourists and Drunks”. This is a copyrighted slogan of Red Shamrock, Inc., often copied, funny, and responsible for making a one bar business well known around the world.

  • Authoritative – “Be All You Can Be” – The Army’s slogan is another well known sentence that is inviting as well as commanding.

  • Simple – “Got Milk?” The dairy board’s campaign slogan combined with celebrities and the memorable milk mustache fused into a solid advertising campaign that has lasted for years.

Once you build your slogan, it’s important to circulate it as much as possible. Print it on everything and then give those things away. Whether you use it as an advertising promotion or as an incentive to purchase, give-aways and freeblies are one of the most effective tools in advertising – as long as they are covered with a catchy slogan and a memorable graphic to distinguish you from your competitors. And as long as there are no strings attached! Deceptive advertising is detrimental even with the best slogan.

Here are some examples of good free advertising or incentive pieces:

  • Coffee mugs
  • Pens
  • Stickers
  • Frisbies
  • T-shirts
  • Calendars
  • Key Chains
  • Magnets
  • Bumper Stickers

Another great way to gain exposure for your company and utilize your slogan to its utmost capabilities is to offer advertising pieces that have ‘usability’. Instead of or in addition to newspaper ads, business cards, flyers, and direct mail (all appropriately displaying your slogan), usability pieces like coupons and gift certificates are other ways to saturate your target audience. Coupons and gift certificates, because they are clipped and kept and then used, have a longer shelf life and a larger impact on the potential client. They also generate specific business – if your coupon is for a specific product or a gift certificate is for $5 when $20 is spent, you have pointed the potential client in the direction you need financial flow.

A few other examples where you can display and distribute an effective slogan include:

  • Product Sheets – List the specs of the most marketable or popular items, listing features and emphasizing related products.

  • Brochures – Create a professional image that focuses on a group of related products or services that you offer to further target specific needs within your target audience. Distribute brochures with your business cards and a note embossed with your slogan and you’ve got a triple whammy.

  • Stationary – Every piece of mail, whether it’s an invoice, a bill, a confirmation, an invitation, a thank you note, a general letter, or email should prominently display your slogan.

Before you can place your slogan in all these central locations, you need to have one! You probably wish you were ready to move onto the step of deciding which advertising campaign to implement first. You need a great slogan! Something that will knock the socks of the competition – and your boss.

At Sassy Slogans, we will create a slogan that is perfectly suited to your needs and in advance of your deadline, so that you can spend your time deciding which color t-shirt will frame it best.
